Lot's to mow! So much time saved!

Firstly, I researched robot mowers for 3 years. There are some that are more expensive, still wired and will do other jobs besides mowing. But for my property, it came down to how well would it mow for the money and was wireless. On these two points, the LUBA 2 AWD 10000HX fit the bill on paper.

Secondly, I have just shy of 2 acres to mow. My property was once pasture and overgrown. It was mowed traditionally for about 2.5 years, so most of the weeds and black berries bushes have given up. There is now mostly grasses. I needed a mower that would would maintain a consistent 3-4" so that only the grasses would be left and look good.

Now that I own the mower, set it up, created the areas, channels and tasks (which took about 3 days), I am very pleased with its performance and quality of the mower. I like how the app provides lots of options for a task, including speed, cutting overlap, mowing pattern and height. It is dong a great job.

Very easy initial setup, including installing the bumper, camera and RTK antenna on the property using the included two-segment pole and adjustable spikes. The charger was easy to setup and I have the RTK antenna in a different location and using the included power adapter. I found that the RTK antenna just 4' off the ground sill reaches out very will. I was able to create an area that was over 100 yards away from the antenna. The razor blades were already installed and it came with replacements.

I have found that if the grass is over 6" in length, it takes two jobs to get the grass down to about 3" consistently. Cutting grass 6" or more was by design to see how it would perform with those parameters. I have also cut the grass when it is wet to see how it would perform. It does pretty well, but does require cleaning out the underside of wet grass and removing some of the long grass that became entwined around the blades.

When the grass is consistently around 3-4", it mows like a champ and within the task parameters you can speed up the mow to 1.5fps. When it is longer, it mows best at just one foot per second. Creating tasks to mow certain areas on a schedule, in my case, twice a week, is very easy to setup. Using the 3-D vision camera allows me to see how long the grass is while I'm not on site and see if the task needs adjustment, such as mow height, speed or pattern changes. I also created no-go zones which speeds up the mow in an area greatly.

The app is very helpful in most respects, but needs some adjustments. Given that the app is probably going to be accessed on a smartphone, the screen size limits some ways to display data. I would like to see the ability to create an area remotely using the 3-D vision camera as a guide. The app doesn't update very quickly to show where the mower is at times or how much battery is left. Closing the app and re-opening updates the location of the mower and battery capacity. When the mower is busy mowing an area, you cannot create or modify another task or area. In the Tasks panel, I would like to organize the tasks by dragging and dropping, but it doesn't allow for that.

I'm hoping to get 3 years out of this mower. It will pay for itself in about a year. This includes paying for gas for 4.5 hours of travel, mowing the traditional way took around 5.5 hours with a push mower, maintenance of the old mower. It used to consume an entire day to mow the property. Now just a little time to change the blades and clean the underside when I do go to the property, usually once a month.

I considered purchasing a riding or a zero-turn mower. All things being equal, why wouldn't I go for the robot to get my time back!

Working Great So Far

I'm about 2 1/2 weeks in now and it's working great for me. It saves me about 6 hours of mowing a week and that's awesome. While the mower works great, the software could use some functionality improvements to help. I've mapped and remapped my yard about 4 or 5 times now to get it to mow like I want and it's a long job each time (about 3 hours). Simple tools like area merge and area split would be extremely helpful. Also, I'd like to queue up one area after another with different settings, but there's no option to start a task after the previous one has finished. Overall I'm very happy with it and hope it will last a long time.

2nd Year and loving it

The Luba 2 is an amazing machine. This is my second year using this product and it is better than last year. I have repositioned my RTK and it is working great. I have 3 zones set and am thinking about adding 2 more. It has changed how my lawn looks and has allowed me more free time. Worth every penny.

Leaving boundaries

I have a first generation Luba 2 and it never left the boundary lines, the new Luba 2 does it on every task in different spots

I have an ideal lawn for this robot but ...

I have the Luba 2 AWD 5000H and have been using it for 3 months now. I'm overall happy with it today but if it doesn't last a minimum of 2 years I will be greatly disappointed with it.

Criticism: I have 1/3 acre and this unit is sold as 1.25 acre device and there's no way that's practically true w/o out manual intervention. It takes 12 hours-ish to do one pass on my lawn. Each time i have to spray the deck and clean the blades because of the build up / to get it ready for the next run. I have an ideal lawn - nearly zero weeds, no trees. If you have a lot of trees, I'm not sure it would be worth it. And going into it I thought i'd just have to spray the deck off after each mow and do blade maintenance every few weeks but that has to be done every mow. Last bit of criticism is I'm worried it's not safe enough - not that it doesn't try but if someone intentionally allowed it to hurt them, I think it would (kids).

Things I've had to learn: For my lawn that has a side walk through it, making the lawn all one zone works way better than breaking out and avoiding the side walk battery-wise. It also took me weeks to figure out the blades spin in toward the middle of the device - when you set up your blades to run, you want to put the sharpest side toward the middle on each side. I bought a electronics drill to make taking the blades off and on faster. I recommend ordering the garage cover for the charging station and buying the wall mount for the antenna if you have weather in your area. The blades aren't that expensive but I wish there was a slick sharpening device to keep them effective longer. I'm also tempted to explore some after market products to make the cut better.

Praise: The lawn lines are beautiful, the grass is a deeper green because I can run it more frequently and it stresses the grass out less, it handles the hills better than i can, I'm enjoying dealing with less allergy stuff and I'm enjoying the extra free time I have to spend with my family. I've had to mow the lawn for decades and I am appreciated a little bit of a break.
